CS 3370 - Computer Graphics

Fall 2006

Course Syllabus


Course Description:
In this course, the student will be introduced to principles of computer graphics.
The student will learn

  • 2-D and 3-D mathematical models, including coordinate systems, transformations, projections and display pipeline,
  • hidden surface removal algorithms including Z-buffer, ray casting and ray tracing,
  • illumination models including lights and various reflection models,
  • modeling, including curves, surfaces, hierarchical representation of objects,
  • color models.

    Emphasis is on implementation of these concepts using the Open GL graphics library.

    Textbook:
    "Computer Graphics with OpenGL'', by Hearn and Baker, Prentice Hall, 2004.

    Covered Material:
    In roughly this order, we will cover chapters 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

    Exams and Grades:
    There will be two tests and a final exam. The remainder of the grade will be based on programming assignments. The following percentages will be used in formulating the final grade:

    Test 1                                         15%
    Test 2                                         15%
    Final                                            30%
    Programming assignments               40%
